Everyone is familiar with Linux today. Linux, together with a set of GNU programs, is an operating system. That is, Linux is not a single program or a suite of tools. Most "versions" of Linux, known as "distributions", are available to download free of charge. However, there are some things you should know about downloading and installing Linux:
First, you don't have to actually install Linux in your hard disk to use the Linux operating system. There exist several "versions" of Linux that can be downloaded and burned to a CD. These variants of the Linux operating system, known as "Live CD" versions, will boot Linux directly from the CD on systems that are capable of doing this.
Recently i installed Ubuntu on my home PC. After several hours of working, searching through the forums on how to install it on my 32 bit PC without repartioning i made it at last. The view after successful installation was really great that i could not hold back my self from sharing it to you all.
Features
Ubuntu have lots of features like a wide variety of free apps, safe and fast web browsing, a dedicated music store and much more. In short Ubuntu brings the very best technologies straight to your desktop
1. Ubuntu includes Mozilla Firefox – for fast, safe web browsing.
2. Create professional documents and presentations using open office.
3. The Ubuntu Software Centre gives you instant access to thousands of free open-source applications.
4. Get chatting with Empathy. Quickly integrate your chat accounts from Yahoo, Gmail, MSN, Jabber, AOL, QQ and many more…
5. Ubuntu's new Me Menu lets you access your Facebook and Twitter accounts (and more) straight away.
6. Ubuntu loads quickly on any computer, but it's super-fast on newer machines. After loading, opening a browser takes seconds, unlike other operating systems that leave you staring at the screen, waiting to get online.(This is really a great feature for me.)
7. Ubuntu's new music player includes an integrated store, so you can buy and download new tracks with just a few clicks.
